I completed my high school internship at Fir Ridge Campus of David Douglas High School. I completed over 400 hours at this site.
Fir Ridge Campus is a small campus of David Douglas High School for students behind in credits, with behavior concerns, and/or social or mental health concerns. The Fir Ridge student population includes: 78% economically disadvantaged, 9% ESL, 14% ELP, 20% SPED, 4% TAG, 16% Title X, 11% pregnant and parenting students. The school also serves a culturally diverse population with 40% White, 38% Hispanic, 8% Black/ African American, 7% multiple ethnicity, 4% Native Hawaiian, 2% Asian, and 1% American Indian.

School Counseling Intern Responsibilities
- Meet with students to plan and work towards academic, career, and personal goals
- Collaborate with counseling department to evaluate, amend and implement a comprehensive developmental and inclusive school counseling program that follows district goals and integrates Oregon’s four developmental domains: academic, personal/social, career, and community involvement
- Communicate with teachers, parents and outside professionals to build support plans, express student needs, make recommendations and supply requested information
- Evaluate transcripts and progress towards graduation and create student schedules
- Conduct interviews to identify students as homeless who qualify for support under the McKinney-Vento Homeless Assistance Act
- Review and implement 504 plans for qualified students
- Participate in meetings including: intervention teams, parent conferences, professional learning teams, staff meetings and in-service training, for the purpose of receiving and/or providing information
- Contact and facilitate participation of 44 community organizations to participate in annual resource fair
- Work with students and parents to prepare and submit Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and college applications
- Perform new student orientation at the beginning of each new academic session
- Solicit donations from local businesses for student needs
